Early career

He was fond of cricket since childhood, the funniest thing was that when he was only seven years old, his father had brought him a bat as a toy for the first time. Once when he was young, he had broken a tooth while playing cricket, due to which his father became against him playing cricket. But seeing his interest, on the request of his mother, he got permission to play cricket again.

Early stages of his career:

• First started his career by joining Delhi Cricket in 1997-1998.
• In 1998, he was selected from the North Zone cricket team for the Duleep Trophy, then his name was at the fifth place in the overall running list. After hard work, his name came fourth in the running list the next year, in which he scored two seventy four. After this, played Ranji Trophy in South Zone against Punjab in three runs in Agartala, one seventy five runs in Twenty Seven Balls.
• After this he was selected in the Under-19 team , which was played against South Africa.

One Day International (ODI) Career –

• In this, they did not start well at all, this was their first big match in 1999 which was played against Pakistan. In this, he was dismissed after scoring one run, in which Shoaib Akhtar had run him out in LBW. His bowling performance in this match was also very poor, in which he gave thirty-five runs in three overs. Due to this reason, he did not get a chance to play in the national team for almost twenty months.
• In 2000, he was not given a chance to play against Zimbabwe again. After continuous failure, he worked very hard in 2001 and it was shown when playing a match against Australia in Bangalore, scoring 58 runs in 54 balls and got the first man of the match award. Then he was selected as a member of the national team, from here his real career started, from which he registered his participation in international sports. But he did not stop playing for his team Delhi.
• He again waved his success in Sri Lanka in 2001 when he was selected for the match against New Zealand in the Tree – Series . In which Sachin Tendulkar could not play due to his injury, then Azaruddin scored sixty two and Yuvraj sixty four balls and he scored his first century from seventy nine balls. With this, it was the first fastest century in the third ODI.
• The first score of more than fifty runs in ten matches in ODI was, for which he was given the man of the match. Sachin and Sehwag’s partnership was considered to be the best during any match. After consistent performance, he was selected as a regular player in ODIs.

• He had come out completely in the test match, in these matches he went on to break the record of runs by playing innings after innings. He played the first test match against South Africa in the year 2001 and scored one hundred and five runs.
• Played home series against England and Zimbabwe in 2002 and scored eighty-four runs, and scored a century in the second test match.
• Played the first home series in 2003, which was against the West Indies, in which he scored one hundred and forty-seven runs and scored a century. For which he got the title of making the top score. With this, he scored one hundred and thirty runs against New Zealand in Mohali in 2003.

• He broke all previous records by scoring three hundred and nine runs against Pakistan in Multan in early 2004 (VVS Laxman had a record of two hundred and eighty one against Australia). And this was the twenty-first Test match, in which he had his sixth century. After this, he won the title of man of the match by scoring ninety runs in the next test match in Lahore.
• In 2004, the cricketer played for the Sunil Gavaskar Trophy in Bangalore, in which Empire Billy Bowden dismissed him as LBW. After this Sehwag scored one hundred and fifty-five runs in Chennai, but due to rain here, the match was postponed.
