Early career

He was fond of cricket since childhood, the funniest thing was that when he was only seven years old, his father had brought him a bat as a toy for the first time. Once when he was young, he had broken a tooth while playing cricket, due to which his father became against him playing cricket. But seeing his interest, on the request of his mother, he got permission to play cricket again.

Early stages of his career:

  • First started his career by joining Delhi Cricket in 1997-1998.
  • In 1998, he was selected from the North Zone cricket team for the Duleep Trophy, then his name was at the fifth place in the overall running list. After hard work, his name came fourth in the running list the next year, in which he scored two seventy four. After this, played Ranji Trophy in South Zone against Punjab in three runs in Agartala, one seventy five runs in Twenty Seven Balls.
  • After this he was selected in the Under-19 team , which was played against South Africa.

One Day International (ODI) Career

  • In this, they did not start well at all, this was their first big match in 1999 which was played against Pakistan. In this, he was dismissed after scoring one run, in which Shoaib Akhtar had run him out in LBW. His bowling performance in this match was also very poor, in which he gave thirty-five runs in three overs. Due to this reason, he did not get a chance to play in the national team for almost twenty months.
  • In 2000, he was not given a chance to play against Zimbabwe again. After continuous failure, he worked very hard in 2001 and it was shown when playing a match against Australia in Bangalore, scoring 58 runs in 54 balls and got the first man of the match award. Then he was selected as a member of the national team, from here his real career started, from which he registered his participation in international sports. But he did not stop playing for his team Delhi.
  • He again waved his success in Sri Lanka in 2001 when he was selected for the match against New Zealand in the Tree – Series . In which Sachin Tendulkar could not play due to his injury, then Azaruddin scored sixty two and Yuvraj sixty four balls and he scored his first century from seventy nine balls. With this, it was the first fastest century in the third ODI.
  • The first score of more than fifty runs in ten matches in ODI was, for which he was given the man of the match. Sachin and Sehwag’s partnership was considered to be the best during any match. After consistent performance, he was selected as a regular player in ODIs.
  • In January 2002 , due to injury to cricketer Sourav Ganguly , he got another opportunity, in which he made a good batting performance by scoring sixty-two runs in sixty four balls against England in Kanpur.
  • Apart from this, he played the Cricket World Cup in 2003, in which he scored two hundred and ninety nine runs with an average of twenty-seven runs. During this match, he scored eighty-two runs against Australia in the final, but unfortunately India lost in this. Playing one match after the other, he played a match against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 2003, in which Sachin and his partnership were there, scoring one hundred thirty runs and scored one hundred eighty-two runs and scored the fourth century.
  • Won three MOM Awards in the 2004 ODIs that were played against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. His best performance was in Kochi when he played against Pakistan and scored one zero eight runs in ninety five balls and won a spectacular victory.
  • Due to a shoulder injury in 2006, Pakistan did not play properly in ODIs for two years, due to which their score board went down their graph and fell far behind in ODIs. Because of which he was dropped from the WI-IND match. It was a very difficult time for him, due to which he was refused in the 2007 World Cup. Then captain Rahul Dravid showed his faith in him and included him in the team, but Sehwag was unsuccessful in that and his performance in the first group was poor. But after this he made his brilliant comeback by scoring one hundred and fourteen runs in eighty seven balls. With this, the Indian team scored the most runs in the World Cup, which was their only victory in the tournament.
  • In 2009, he scored the fastest century against New Zealand in ODI, which was hit in sixty balls. This was the first series against New Zealand in which he led India, it was a big win for him.
  • He broke all the records so far by playing against West Indies in Indore in 2011. In this match, Sehwag scored two hundred and nineteen runs in one hundred and fifty nine balls and crossed the record of eight thousand runs in ODI cricket. Here he proved to be a strong player for the Indian team.
  • England scored four Twenty Six runs with four fifties in the first tour of South Africa in the series.
  • After returning from the tour of England, he scored two seventy one runs in the ICC Champions Trophy, in which he got the man of the match twice. Here he had a partnership with Ganguly, in which he scored one hundred and twenty six runs in one hundred and four balls and registered a victory against England by eight wickets.
  • With this, playing against West Indies in Rajkot registered a nine-wicket win. The biggest thing was that New Zealand was the only batsman to score a century in seven matches in the ODI series.

Test Match Career

  • He had come out completely in the test match, in these matches he went on to break the record of runs by playing innings after innings. He played the first test match against South Africa in the year 2001 and scored one hundred and five runs.
  • Played home series against England and Zimbabwe in 2002 and scored eighty-four runs, and scored a century in the second test match.
  • Played the first home series in 2003, which was against the West Indies, in which he scored one hundred and forty-seven runs and scored a century. For which he got the title of making the top score. With this, he scored one hundred and thirty runs against New Zealand in Mohali in 2003.
  • He broke all previous records by scoring three hundred and nine runs against Pakistan in Multan in early 2004 (VVS Laxman had a record of two hundred and eighty one against Australia). And this was the twenty-first Test match, in which he had his sixth century. After this, he won the title of man of the match by scoring ninety runs in the next test match in Lahore.
  • In 2004, the cricketer played for the Sunil Gavaskar Trophy in Bangalore, in which Empire Billy Bowden dismissed him as LBW. After this Sehwag scored one hundred and fifty-five runs in Chennai, but due to rain here, the match was postponed. In the same year, in the first Test against South Africa in the home series, he scored one hundred and sixty four runs in Kanpur and eighty eight runs in Kolkata to secure the second place for the Indian team, for which he got the Man of the Series award.
  • During the home series in 2005, he scored one hundred and thirty-three runs in Maholi, eighty one runs in Kolkata, two hundred and one runs in Bangalore, with an average of five hundred and forty-five runs. For which he got the award for Men of the Series. He had crossed the record of three thousand runs in the Bangalore Test match. He got the title of ICC Test Team of the Year by scoring the fastest run in the innings, due to which his name was selected as a Test player.
  • In 2005, he played against Australia in the ICC Super Series, in which he scored seventy-six runs in the first innings. But then his performance was not good for some time, he scored only fifty runs in four matches against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. After some time in Ahmedabad, he returned to the team and due to Dravid’s illness, he was made the captain at that time.
  • In 2006, Lahore first Test match was played against Pakistan, in which he scored two fifty four runs and scored the highest Test run and scored a double century. After that, partnering with Rahul Dravid, he broke all the records of Test matches by making four hundred and ten against Pakistan.
  • In the opening round of the second Test match in the West Indies in 2006, he was dismissed for very few runs in the matches several times, but later he won the man of the match by scoring one hundred and eighty runs off one hundred and ninety balls. For the first time in the West Indies tour, he was tried for bowling when Harbajan Singh was not present but was not right for bowling.
