Espionage thrillers are the ultimate watch for suspense and action junkies. And it’s always the more the merrier when it comes to fast-paced, high-octane spy thrillers. Voot Select’s next, ‘Crackdown’ is right up that alley, if its just-released teaser is anything to go by. Crackdown premieres on Voot Select on 23rd September.
Directed by the master of spy and action thrillers, Apoorva Lakhia, whose earlier credits include Shootout At Lokhandwaka and Ek Ajnabee, Crackdown is chock-full of all the elements that make a great spy and action thriller.
The teaser opens with scenes of devastation – 80 people have been killed in a terrible bomb blast. Saqib Saleem plays the primary protagonist, an Indian Intelligence official, along with Rajesh Tailang and Iqbal Khan. Ankur Bhatia is the main antagonist, who’s spun a diabolical web to inflict maximum damage to the country. He challenges Saqib Saleem with the threat that he can save only one – his agents or the citizens of his country. Mudasir R Bhat, the young and upcoming actor from J&K, is seen with a menacing smile in one of the scenes. Guess, he’s part of the bad guys gang.
Gun fights, the centrepiece of any Apoorva Lakhia movie, abound in the teaser, as do car chases and cat-and-mouse hunts, topped off with bombs and blasts. Crackdown seems to be mounted on a larger than life scale, and it appears to be as good as, or maybe better than Disney Plus Hotstar’s Special Ops.
Shriya Pilgaonkar is seen several times in the one-minute teaser, but it is unclear what her role is. She appears to be a mole for the Indian Intelligence Agency, a la Aalia Bhat in Raazi. Waluscha De Souza’s role is hazy too.
Crackdown premieres on Voot Select on 23rd September. Check out the first teaser of the series below –
