There is a very popular story: A moneylender had two beautiful, courteous daughters. But one was far ahead in religious customs and one did not like all of them. The elder sister used to do all the rituals diligently, but the younger one used to do it reluctantly. Both were married. Both the sisters used to fast on Sharad Purnima, but all the religious works of the younger were incomplete. Because of this, his child used to die a few days after birth. Sadly, he asked a Mahatma the reason for this, the Mahatma told him that your mind is not in worship, so you should fast on Sharad Purnima, after listening to the Mahatma, he did it, but then his son did not survive. He put his dead child on a post and called his sister to the house and ignoring it, asked the sister to sit on that post. As soon as the sister went to sit on it, the child started crying at her touch. The elder sister was shocked at once. He said hey where were you making me sit. Here is your red. He would just die. Then the younger sister told that my son had died, but because of your virtues, his life came back just by your touch. Since then every year all the villagers started fasting on Sharad Purnima.
