We have always heard the phrase that ‘Times Change’ and now we have a live example for this in the form of OTT. In the earlier times when releasing movies only meant that it will come in theatres. And to this an actor’s stardom was set which was based on the opening day collection, footfalls, etc. This system ran since the beginning of Indian cinema untill these last few years with the surge in OTT platforms. But then also some actors doesn’t considered OTT platforms to have a future in a country like India. But now they have been proven wrong.
The earlier mentality to release a movie in these streaming platform meant that the makers aren’t getting a decent amount of screens or the movie isn’t worthy to get into big screens etc etc. But now comes 2018 with new shows starts coming on Netflix, Amazon Prime, like Sacred Games, Mirzapur, and a whole new market for OTT is formed after the fantastic success of these shows. Now in 2020, OTT is giving a tough competition to silver screens as they have more things to offer plus the platform gives lesser known actors, directors to showcase their talent and thus slowly this is becoming the go to option for many people. Seeing the growing trend for OTT, many top tier actors and stars have already ventured in it or are in the process of doing it. Let’s see :-
Akshay Kumar is one of the most busiest actor in the recent times, he releases 4 movies in a year plus shoots for multiple movies at a time. Aamir Khan has been on the talks for making his dream project Mahabharata as an episodic one. Meaning that the series can be divided into seasons so that they can put it into larger scales. He has been in talks with Netflix who will not let go of this humongous opportunity. While Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film Bhuj: Pride of India is all set to hit Disney+Hotstar later this year, he has been offered to play lead in the Indian remake of Luther. Venturing into the OTT market is termed risky by some experts but some consider it to be good for Indian entertainment industry which is limited to masala content.
