Gangadhar Rao’s last letter to the British Government

When the Maharaja completed all the state adoption procedures, he himself wrote a letter to the British government that “The whole of Europe knows about the services done by my ancestors for Bundelkhand before the British government came. All political enumerators know how faithfully I have followed the orders of the government. Now I am afraid that I am suffering from incurable disease, so my lineage is on the verge of ending completely. Till now I have always given my services to the British government and the government has also taken care of my interests, so I want to inform the government that the name of the 5 year old boy I have declared as my adopted son is Anand Rao. But from now on he will be known as Damodar Gangadhar Rao. This child is a member of our family, and is my grandson in kinship. I hope that by the grace of the Lord and the care of the government, I will get well soon, and considering my age, it is possible that in future I will get the son Ratna, and if this happens then the whole issue will be returned at that time. Will be thought, but if I am not able to avoid this disease now, then I hope that the government will protect this little child of mine and will take care of the services I have done so far for this. As long as my wife is alive she will be the guardian of this kingdom and my son. She will be the administrator of this entire state, so you should ensure that after my departure, my wife does not face any problem while ruling Jhansi.

After writing the entire letter, Maharaj handed over this letter to Major Ellis and reminded him repeatedly that his kingdom should be allowed to continue as per tradition even after his departure.
