India has 28 states and 9 union territories in the country. The states and union territories are further sub-divided into districts and smaller administrative divisions. The Indian subcontinent has been ruled by a number of different ethnic groups throughout history, with each region having its own set of administrative divisions. During the British Raj, the basic administrative structure was done, under which India was divided into provinces, and the British government had authority everywhere. To spread their rule, the British had made a local king everywhere, who used to handle the British Empire.
Between 1947 and 1950, the princely territories were politically integrated into the Indian Union. Most of the province was annexed to the existing province, the remainder was made a new province. Rajputana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Bharat and Vindhya Pradesh were made separate states. Bhopal, Bilaspur, Mysore and Hyderabad which were separate provinces were added to it. After the constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950, India became a democratic republic. After the constitution came into force in 1950, the states were divided into three parts –
- Part A State – These were the former governor-ruled provinces of British India. It was ruled by an elected governor and state legislator. It includes Assam, Bihar, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Orissa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
- PART B STATES – In this those states come, where the head of the state used to rule. The head of state was elected by the President of India. Under this Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir, Central India, Mysore, Patiala, Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Cochin.
- Part C State – It included Ajmer, Bhopal, Bilaspur, Coorg, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kutch, Manipur, Tripura and Vindhya Pradesh.

- Andra Pradesh – The state of Andhra Pradesh was formed on 1 October 1953. Earlier the capital here was Hyderabad, but after the formation of Telangana state, its capital became Amravathi. By the way, the largest city here is Visakhapatnam. The official language here is Telugu.
