Read what we know from the pulse oximeter reading and read the information about the normal range of the reading in this article. What is Pulse Oximeter – Pulse oximeter is a medical device that gives the necessary information about the patient’s heart and blood. Due to corona (Covid19), certain types of Fever and diseases, there are disturbances in heart rate and blood circulation. In such a situation, the use of an oximeter gives necessary information about the current condition of the patient.

Pulse Oximeter Normal Range, Meaning of Reading – What is Pulse Oximeter
Heart work in the body is to send oxygen, blood, and nutrients to all the organs of the body. If the heart does not function properly, serious health problems may occur. To find out about the heart rate and health of blood supply, readings are seen by applying an oximeter on some parts of the body, finger end, lower part of the ear, etc.
For taking readings from the oximeter, it should be applied in your hand or toe or ear lobe for 5-20 seconds. While applying the finger, keep in mind that the nail should be facing upwards.
Pulse oximeter readings – about Oximeter reading range in hindi
Most of the oximeters available in the market reveal 3 main details: SpO2, PRbpm, and PI%. SpO2 appears in the reading number of PRbpm and as a PI% graph and percentage.
What is the meaning of the information appearing in the oximeter and let us learn about the information of the normal range of these parameters?
1) SpO2% means and normal range – What is spo2 meaning in hindi
The SpO2 level in the pulse oximeter shows the oxygen level (O2 saturation level) found in our blood. This shows whether our lungs are functioning properly and whether they are supplying enough oxygen to the blood through the breath or not.
Spo2 has a normal reading between 95 and 100 for children and those above 18 years of age . The reading of 95 to 90 is below normal and if the SpO2% reading is below 90 then it is a symptom of Hypoxia which is a sign of danger.
Hypoxia means lack of oxygen in the blood:
- Breathing difficulty/inability to breathe properly
- Headache or chest pain
- Brisk walking
- Fast heartbeat
- Nails and lips or skin turn blue
- Confusion or confusion
- Appears as wheezing etc. in breathing.
2) Meaning of PRbpm and its normal range – prbpm means in oximeter
PRbpm (Pulse Rate beats per minute) in an oximeter is an indicator of the number of heartbeats occurring in 1 minute. The normal adult heart beat can range from 60 to 100. Heartbeat is usually around 65 to 80 in most people.
If a person’s normal heart rate is less than 60 or more than 100, then it is an abnormal motion. But if someone’s heart is very healthy like a good player, then his heartbeat can also be less than 60 per minute.
The person should not be active to measure PRbpm. If you are walking or doing some heavy work then you should measure your heart beat (BPM) by stopping 5 minutes.
3) PI% mean and normal range in oximeter – Perfusion index meaning in hindi
The full form of PI is Perfusion Index. The perfusion index is an indicator of the Pulse Strength of the heart of the body. The PI% range goes from 0.02% to 20%. A mean pulse of 0.02% is very weak (20%) and a pulse of 20% is very strong. The PI between it is considered normal (%) ie 1.2% to 11% .
From the graph of the perfusion index in the oximeter, we can know the important things about heart function.
1) The first type of graph has a similarity in the pulse line fluctuations (spikes). This shows that the heart is functioning with its normal heart function.
2 & 3) In the second and third graph, the pulse line looks irregular. There is a stagnation in the rise and the waveform at some places. This means heartbeat is Irregular Heartbeat.
4) In the fourth kind of graph, the line of pulse line fluctuations is very low. The height of the graph (Spike) is also low. This means that the heartbeat signal is weak. This indicates that either the signal is not being received properly or the heartbeat is slowing down.
If the perfusion index (PI) in a newborn is very low, it describes a serious problem quite accurately. If a patient is given Anesthesia, then the slowing of his PI index is an indicator of the effect of Anesthesia and increased PI indicates Anesthesia failure.
Pulse oximeter works on a technology called Photoplethysmography. Photoplethysmography can measure the amount of blood flowing in the body with each pulse. Pulse oximeter is also known as Photoplethysmograph.
