Early Life (HD Deve Gowda Personal Life)–
Deve Gowda was born in Hassan district of Karnataka, his father Doddegowda was a farmer and used to do agriculture. Deve Gowda ji belonged to the Vokkaliga caste, which was then called a backward caste. Deve Gowda did his Diploma in Civil Engineering from LV Polytechnic College. Immediately after studying at the age of 20, Deve Gowda ji had stepped into politics. Deve Gowda ji is married to Chennama, with whom he has 6 children. One of his sons, HD Kumaraswamy, has also been the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Coming into politics, Deve Gowda joined the National Congress Party in 1953. He worked for the Congress till 1962. After this he stood alone for the elections in Karnataka, in which he was also victorious. Deve Gowda was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly for three consecutive terms in the constituency of Holenarasipur. From 1972 to 76, Deve Gowda was the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. In 1975 when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi Announced the Emergency, then Deve Gowda ji opposed it, due to which he had to spend 18 months in jail. Even during his stay in jail, Deve Gowda did not stay away from politics, he used to read books related to politics there too, so that he could learn the tricks of politics. Deve Gowda also used to talk to other leaders who were in jail so that they could gain more knowledge. This thing had a great impact on his life, influenced his thinking and his personality further flourished.
On 22 November 1982, Deve Gowda resigned from the Sixth Assembly. After some time, he became the Minister of Social and Irrigation Department, as well as became a member of the Seventh and Eighth Legislative Assembly. Being the Minister of Irrigation, he started many irrigation works. In 1987, he resigned from the cabinet cabinet, protesting against the government giving inadequate funds in the irrigation department.
