‘Ghoomketu‘ (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) wants to become a writer and the desire to fulfill his dreams draws him to Mumbai. He writes stories like Bloody Bathrooms, Soulethi Maa, Dilwale Dulhania De Jayenge, and wants to film superstars in his films. But Kismet has thought of something else for him.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s ‘Ghoomketu’ released directly on OTT during the lockdown. If seen, this is the 2020 Eid release. So, there were some expectations from the film. But does it live up to expectations?
Ghoomketu’s dialogue in the film is- “This comedy is very difficult thing, people should laugh.”
Ghoomketu of Mohana village has to become a writer, write the story of the film. To fulfill this dream, he travels around the village newspaper ‘Tickle’. He does not get a job there, but gets an advice – a struggle is necessary to write a story. Putting together a book titled “How to become a Bollywood writer in 30 days”, he rushes to Mumbai to struggle in life. Here he narrates his stories to the filmmaker. In his film, Ranveer Singh dreams of taking Sonakshi Sinha. Shahrukh visits the office. From the romantic story, to the horror, comedy sub trie. Ultimately, the filmmaker gives him 30 days to bring a good story. On the other hand, the task of catching Ghoomketu, who has run away from home, gets the responsibility of police officer Badlani (Anurag Kashyap), who has to catch Ghoomketu in 30 days anyway. Now in these 30 days, Ghoomketu becomes a writer or he is caught by the police. The whole story revolves around this.
Simply put, even a character in the film cannot hold you for 2 hours. Directed by Pushpendra Nath Mishra, the film’s story goes through the simplicity of the village, a strange family, Mumbai nagria and Bollywood. The struggle of Ghoomketu in Mumbai may attract your attention for a while, but the weak dialogue chills. The director had actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amitabh Bachchan for cameos, I wish he had also tried to add newness to the story. Ghoomketu, dressed in colorful clothes, seems like a repeated scene of a worn-out film. Attempts have been made to laugh at such things as fat wife, aunt’s burp, step-mother, which seems to have been written in a superficial manner.
The strongest side of the acting film is its actors. Especially Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ila Arun and Raghubir Yadav have played their character with full truth. Ila Arun’s work in Santo Bua’s character is excellent. She laughs and holds the strings of the story to one side. At the same time, Amitabh Bachchan’s cameo can make you happy. There is a sudden flare in the film as soon as Big B comes, the story gets heavy. Nawazuddin has tried his best to carry the film on his shoulders, but the lackluster writing did not support him.
this film was made 4-5 years ago but was not released. It is now released directly on OTT in Lockdown. Therefore, the film does not show freshness. The stars seen in cameos are also in their years-old look. At the same time, the dialogues of the film also seem average. In the last 5 years, Bollywood has done a great job on its content. In such a situation, a film like Ghoomketu is lost. Satyarai Nagpaul’s cinematography is good in the film. He has captured the sustainability of Mumbai’s Bhagam Bhag and small town well.
The film has three songs, one of which is the item song. The music of the film is given by Sneha Khanwalkar and Jasleen Royal. Well, after the film you will hardly remember any songs. The good thing is that the songs follow along with the film and carry the story forward
Dekhe or na dekhe runs away from home with his dream, wandering in Mumbai, goes through many emotions. He understands the importance of his family. One good thing in the film is that he does not compromise with his dreams, even though the entire medium has changed, but he does not stop dreaming. But it is also not easy to watch this 2-hour long film. 2 stars to Ghoomketu from crackaccount.
