Smt. Pratibha Patil was the twelfth and first woman President of India. He was born on December 19, 1934 in the village of Nandgaon in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. His father’s name was Narayan Rao Patil, who was a politician. Pratibha ji had her early education from RR Vidyalaya in Jalgaon. After this, he did his college studies from Mulji Jetha College in Jalgaon. She went to Government Law College, Mumbai to study law. He further obtained a master’s degree in Political Science and Economics. From his school days, he was inclined towards sports. Coming to college, he participated in many sports. She was a very good player of table tennis.

Pratibha Patil ji was as beautiful in heart as she used to attract everyone with outward beauty as well. This is the reason why she won the title of ‘College Queen’ at MJ College in 1962. On 7 July 1965, Pratibha ji married Dev Singh Ransingh Shekhawat. Pratibha ji has 1 son and 1 daughter.

Pratibha Patil political career–

Pratibha ji started practicing law from Jalgaon District Court. Pratibha ji always had a desire to work for social activities. She always worked to improve the condition of Indian women. Pratibha ji’s political journey started at the age of 27, when she became a member of the Legislative Assembly from Jalgaon seat of Maharashtra. For 4 consecutive years from 1962, Pratibha ji won the Indian National Congress ticket from Mukti Nagar Vidhan Sabha and remained in the position of MLA.

She was very much influenced by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Yashwant Rao Chauhan and senior Congress leader. This is the reason that every little thing related to politics, she would ask them and act after understanding them. For many years she was working in different positions in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Between 1967-72, Smt. Pratibha Patil took over as the Deputy Minister of Education and at the same time looked after the work of other ministries.

Smt. Pratibha Patil ji was also the President of the State Congress Committee, Maharashtra and the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. She was also a Director of National Urban Co-operative Banks and Credit Societies, a member of the Governing Council of the National Cooperative Federation of India. She attended the ‘Status of Women’ program organized in Australia as the representative of India. In 1995, at the ‘World’s Women’s Conference’ which was held in Beijing, Mrs. Pratibha Patil was elected as the delegate. Apart from politics, Smt. Pratibha Patil ji was always associated with social work. Pratibha Patil ji did many works for the welfare of women and development of rural economy. Establishment of women home guards in Jalgaon district. Sewing, music and computer classes were also opened for poor and needy women. Smt. Pratibha Patil ji also established nursery school for the children of backward classes, poor and other backward classes. Established an industrial training school for the blind in Amravati and ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’ to teach the farmers scientific techniques for growing good crops.
