Annapurna Jayanti Story
According to the Puranas, when the water and food started running out on the earth, then there was an outcry among the people. Due to this tragedy, everyone worshiped Lord Brahma and Vishnu and told their problem. Then both the gods awakened Shiva from yoga sleep and made him aware of the whole problem. Knowing the seriousness of the problem, Shiva himself inspected the earth to solve it. At that time Mata Parvati took the form of Annapurna Devi. Thus Shiva asked Annapurna Devi for rice in alms and distributed them among the hungry generation. Thus from that day the festival of Annapurna Jayanti is celebrated on earth. This awakens a sense of respect for food in humans and they are inspired to conserve food.
Similarly another story is told, when Sita Haran After Lord Rama was roaming for his monkey army in search of Mata Sita, then Mata Annapurna herself had fed him and supported everyone for a long time.
It is said that when Lord Shiva was giving salvation to man in Kashi, then Mother Parvati, in the form of Annapurna, used to see the arrangements for the food of the living beings.
In this way, due to many reasons, the importance of Annapurna Jayanti is very high in the life of man, it awakens a sense of protection and respect and man does not throw food unnecessarily.
